PROVO, Utah - Utah Valley University's men's and women's track & field teams shattered four school records as they completed their first track meet of the 2009 indoor season at the BYU Collegiate Indoor Invitational Friday and Saturday.

"We could not have asked for any more out of our opening meet of the season," UVU track associate head coach Kirke Adamson said. "Everybody came through and met a lot of their personal goals for today's meet. Our performances today are setting us up in a great spot for the remainder of the season especially in our inaugural year in the Great West Conference."

UVU freshman Michael McPherson broke the school's heptathlon record with 3891 points, junior Andrew Graham broke Stig Robertson's former record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.31, junior Jessica Wortley broke Mariama Salifu's record in the women's 300-meter dash with a time of 41.40, and on Friday junior Tiera Zaugg shattered the school record in the women's pentathlon.

"It is just great to break four school records in the opening meet of the season," Adamson said. "It is especially great to see Jessica (Wortley) beat Mariama Salifu's previous record as Salifu is a member of the Ghana National Team's 4x100-meter relay."
